SYNOPSIS

Urges Congress designate "The Most Beautiful Lady in the World: Statue of Liberty Anthem" as official anthem of Statue of Liberty.

CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

Introduced Pending Technical Review by Legislative Counsel.

A Senate Resolution urging Congress to designate "The Most Beautiful Lady in the World: Statue of Liberty Anthem" as the official anthem of the Statue of Liberty.

Whereas, The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the people of France to the United States to commemorate the lasting friendship between the peoples of the two nations; and

Whereas, This National Monument on an island in the New York/New Jersey harbor has been this nation's most revered monument to freedom since its receipt from France and dedication in 1889; and

Whereas, It provided a majestic welcome to millions of immigrants as they arrived in America through nearby Ellis Island; and

Whereas, Today, the Statue of Liberty remains an enduring symbol of freedom and democracy, as well as one of the world's most recognizable landmarks; and

Whereas, At the 100th Centennial Celebration of the Statue of Liberty, a chorus of schoolchildren sang, "The Most Beautiful Lady in the World: Statue of Liberty Anthem," written and composed by Helmut C. Calabrese and Paul L. Calabrese; and

Whereas, The anthem has been described as a "profound expression of emotion ... an inspirational dedication to the Statue of Liberty's long service as a beacon of hope and gateway of opportunity;" and

Whereas, It is altogether fitting and proper that this House urge Congress to pass legislation designating the song, "The Most Beautiful Lady in the World: Statue of Liberty Anthem," as the official anthem of the Statue of Liberty; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:

     1.    This House urges Congress to designate, "The Most Beautiful Lady in the World: Statue of Liberty Anthem," written and composed by Helmut C. Calabrese and Paul L. Calabrese, as the official anthem of the Statue of Liberty.
