SYNOPSIS

Calls for immediate and safe return of three teenagers recently abducted in Israel.

CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

     As introduced.

A Senate Resolution calling for the immediate and safe return of three teenagers recently abducted in Israel.

Whereas,  On June 12, 2014, three teenage students disappeared near Gush Etzion, an area of Israeli settlements located between Jerusalem and the predominantly Palestinian city of Hebron, on their way home from lessons at their religious school; and

Whereas,  The three teenagers are Gilad Shaar, who is 16 years of age, Eyal Yifrach, who is 19 years of age, and Naftali Fraenkel, who is 16 years of age and is a citizen of both Israel and the United States; and

Whereas, It is presumed that they have been abducted, and Israeli Defense Forces are conducting an intensive operation, including meticulous searches of the area, in an effort to locate and rescue the three teenagers; and

Whereas, United States Secretary of State John Kerry has spoken with the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the missing teenagers; and

Whereas, It has been reported that Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Abbas are communicating and that President Abbas has rightly condemned this abduction and has pledged cooperation and security coordination with Israel on expeditiously locating the missing teens and bringing the perpetrators of this abduction to justice; and

Whereas, Naftali, Gilad and Eyal belong with their families and each day they are separated is a day of unimaginable suffering for these families and the young men, and the prompt return home to their families will end this horror that they are living through right now; and

Whereas, It is fitting and proper for this House to call for the immediate and safe return of Naftali, Gilad and Eyal and show its support with this call to those who are working around the clock to bring the teenagers home safely; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:

     1.  This House calls for the immediate and safe return of Gilad Shaar, Eyal Yifrach, and Naftali Fraenkel, who were recently abducted in Israel.

     2.  A copy of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to the Israeli Ambassador to the United States, the President of the United States, and each member of Congress elected from this State.
