       AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation  to  the  iden-
         tification of vehicles being used by student drivers
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Section 375 of the vehicle and traffic law  is  amended  by
    2  adding a new subdivision 44-a to read as follows:
    3    44-A.  VEHICLES DRIVEN BY STUDENT DRIVERS. ANY MOTOR VEHICLE USED BY A
    4  PERSON WITH A LEARNER'S PERMIT SHALL  BEAR  IDENTIFICATION,  VISIBLE  TO
    5  BOTH  ONCOMING  AND  FOLLOWING  TRAFFIC, TO INDICATE THAT THE VEHICLE IS
    6  BEING DRIVEN BY A STUDENT DRIVER. THE COST OF SUCH IDENTIFICATION  SHALL
    7  BE  PAID  BY THE STUDENT DRIVER. THE COMMISSIONER SHALL ESTABLISH STAND-
    8  ARDS FOR SUCH IDENTIFICATION.
    9    S 2. This act shall  take  effect  on  the  first  of  September  next
   10  succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law.
