       AN  ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to vehicles or
         combinations of vehicles exceeding maximum dimension and weight  limi-
         tations
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Section 375 of the vehicle and traffic law  is  amended  by
    2  adding a new subdivision 52 to read as follows:
    3    52.  EVERY VEHICLE COMBINATION CONSISTING OF A TRACTOR AND TWO OR MORE
    4  TRAILERS OR SEMI-TRAILERS SHALL HAVE POSTED AT THE REAR THEREOF  A  SIGN
    5  INDICATING,  IN  LETTERS  OF  A  SIZE  READABLE  FROM A DISTANCE OF FIVE
    6  HUNDRED FEET, THAT SUCH VEHICLE  COMBINATION  IS  OF  EXCESSIVE  LENGTH.
    7  PROVIDED, HOWEVER, THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SUBDIVISION SHALL NOT APPLY TO
    8  ANY  TRAILER  OR SEMI-TRAILER BEING OPERATED IN COMBINATION WITH ANOTHER
    9  TRAILER OR SEMI-TRAILER AND NOT EXCEEDING TWENTY-EIGHT AND ONE-HALF FEET
   10  IN LENGTH.
   11    S 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next  succeed-
   12  ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
