THIELE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Local Governments AN ACT to amend the volunteer ambulance workers' benefit law, in relation to granting the emergency medical technicians preference to medical school admissions to all schools which receive funding from New York state THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. The volunteer ambulance workers' benefit law is amended by 2 adding a new section 26 to read as follows: 3 S 26. PREFERENCE TO MEDICAL SCHOOL ADMISSIONS. WHERE THERE ARE APPLI- 4 CANTS OF OTHERWISE EQUAL QUALIFICATIONS, ANY VOLUNTEER AMBULANCE WORKER, 5 AS DEFINED IN SUBDIVISION ONE OF SECTION THREE OF THIS CHAPTER, SHALL BE 6 GRANTED PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT WHEN APPLYING TO ANY MEDICAL SCHOOL IN 7 NEW YORK STATE WHICH RECEIVES FUNDING FROM THE STATE. 8 S 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after 9 it shall have become a law; provided, however, that effective immediate- 10 ly, the addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation 11 necessary for the implementation of this act on its effective date are 12 authorized and directed to be made and completed on or before such 13 effective date.
