       AN  ACT to amend the parks, recreation and historic preservation law, in
         relation to the free use of campsites by former prisoners of war
         THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Section 13.19 of the parks, recreation and historic preser-
    2  vation law, as amended by chapter 649 of the laws of 1977, is amended to
    3  read as follows:
    4    S 13.19  Free use of campsites.  Notwithstanding the provisions of any
    5  other  law,  any  person who is blind, non-ambulatory, or an amputee, or
    6  ANY FORMER PRISONER OF WAR, A RECIPIENT OF  THE  PURPLE  HEART,  OR  any
    7  veteran  of  the  wars of the United States, SUCH VETERAN who has at any
    8  time been awarded by the federal government  an  allowance  towards  the
    9  purchase  of  an  automobile  or  is eligible for such an award shall be
   10  permitted to use any of the public campsites,  parks  and  other  public
   11  places  of  recreation in this state, upon the same terms and conditions
   12  as apply to the general public, but without the payment of any  fees  or
   13  other  charges  for  the  use  of such campsites, parks and other public
   14  places of recreation.
   15    S 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
