          tee on Education

        AN ACT to amend the education law, in  relation  to  the  ability  of  a
          school  principal to alternatively code a student dropped from enroll-
          ment

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section  1.  Section  3202 of the education law is amended by adding a
     2  new subdivision 1-b to read as follows:
     3    1-b. Upon a pupil being dropped from enrollment  from  a  school,  the
     4  department shall provide a principal with the ability to code such pupil
     5  as being enrolled in an educational program leading to vocational train-
     6  ing  or  a  GED  in lieu of coding such student as being a drop out from
     7  such school.
     8    § 2. This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day  after  it  shall
     9  have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amendment and/or
    10  repeal  of  any  rule  or regulation necessary for the implementation of
    11  this act on its effective date are authorized to be made  and  completed
    12  on or before such effective date.
