        Introduced  by M. of A. BARRETT -- read once and referred to the Commit-
          tee on Governmental Employees -- committee discharged,  bill  amended,
          ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee

        AN  ACT  to allow Benjamin Doty to be eligible to take the civil service
          exam for the position of deputy sheriff for the Columbia County  Sher-
          iff's Office

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 58 of  the  civil
     2  service  law  or  any  other  provision of law to the contrary, Benjamin
     3  Doty, who has been continuously employed by the village of Millerton, in
     4  the county of Dutchess, as a part-time police officer, and in the  town-
     5  ship of Germantown, in the county of Columbia, as a part-time Patrolman,
     6  shall  be eligible to take the competitive civil service examination for
     7  the position of deputy sheriff and shall, contingent upon his  score  on
     8  such  examination,  be  eligible  to  be placed on the eligible list for
     9  appointment as a full-time deputy sheriff for the Columbia county  sher-
    10  iff's office.
    11    § 2. Benjamin Doty shall otherwise be subject to the merit and fitness
    12  provisions of the civil service law applicable to full-time deputy sher-
    13  iffs.
    14    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
