STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 7508 2021-2022 Regular Sessions IN ASSEMBLY May 12, 2021 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. PHEFFER AMATO, PRETLOW -- (at request of the New York State Gaming Commission) -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Racing and Wagering AN ACT to amend the racing, pari-mutuel wagering and breeding law, in relation to improvement of operation in thoroughbred racing The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 218 of the racing, pari-mutuel wagering and breed- 2 ing law, as amended by chapter 243 of the laws of 2020, is amended to 3 read as follows: 4 § 218. Stewards at race meetings. There shall be three stewards to 5 supervise each running race meeting conducted pursuant to sections two 6 hundred five and two hundred six of this article. One of such stewards 7 shall be the official steward of the commission, one shall be appointed 8 by the jockey club or by the national steeplechase and hunt association 9 as may be appropriate, and one shall be appointed by the corporation 10 conducting such race meeting. Such stewards shall exercise such powers 11 and perform such duties at each race meeting as may be prescribed by the 12 rules of the commission. During the absence or inability to act of an 13 official steward of the commission, or in the event of the failure or 14 inability to appoint either of the other two stewards, the powers and 15 duties of such steward shall be exercised and performed [without compen-16sation] by a [member of the commission] person designated by the commis- 17 sion for that purpose. 18 § 2.
