STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 9447 IN ASSEMBLY March 3, 2016 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. ABBATE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to including the district attorney detective investigators in the MTA Long Island Rail- road no fare program The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Subdivision 14 of section 1266 of the public authorities 2 law, as amended by chapter 182 of the laws of 2013, is amended to read 3 as follows: 4 14. Notwithstanding any other provisions of law or the terms of any 5 contract, the authority, in consultation with the Long Island Rail Road, 6 shall establish and implement a no fare program for transportation on 7 the Long Island Rail Road for police officers employed by the city of 8 New York, county of Nassau, Nassau county villages and cities, county of 9 Suffolk, Suffolk county villages and towns, the division of state 10 police, the port authority of New York and New Jersey, the Metro-North 11 Commuter Railroad Company, the New York city housing authority [and] , 12 the New York city transit authority and "detective investigators" or 13 "rackets investigators" employed in the office of a district attorney. 14 In establishing such program, which has as its goal increased protection 15 and improved safety for its commuters, the authority and the Long Island 16 Rail Road shall, among other things, consider: (a) requiring police 17 officers who ride without cost to register with the Long Island Rail 18 Road as a condition of riding without cost; (b) requiring such officers 19 to indicate during such registration process their regular working hours 20 and the Long Island Rail Road trains that such officers expect to ride; 21 and (c) periodically re-registering and re-validating such officers. The 22 authority and the Long Island Rail Road shall also have the power to 23 consider other matters necessary to carry out the goals and objectives 24 of this section. 25 § 2.
