          tee on  Education  --  committee  discharged,  bill  amended,  ordered
          reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee
        AN  ACT  to  amend  the education law, in relation to enacting "Jacobe's
          law"
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as "Jacobe's law."
     2    § 2. The education law is amended by adding a new section 15-a to read
     3  as follows:
     4    §  15-a. Reporting by school administrators. 1. School administrators,
     5  as defined by subdivision six of section eleven hundred  twenty-five  of
     6  this  title,  shall  make  a  good faith effort to contact the parent or
     7  guardian of a student immediately following  a  report  of  bullying  or
     8  harassment  or  a reasonable cause to suspect an incident of bullying or
     9  harassment of  the  student.  "Harassment"  and  "bullying"  shall  mean
    10  harassment  and  bullying  as defined under subdivision seven of section
    11  eleven of this article.
    12    2. The school administrator shall contact the parent  or  guardian  by
    13  telephone, electronic mail, regular mail or other means.
    14    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
