Senate Resolution No. 45

        CONGRATULATING   Dr.   John   DeTraglia  upon  the
        occasion  of  his  retirement  after  24  years   of
        distinguished service to Midstate EMS

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the  quality  of  life in the communities across this great State of New
York is enriched by the diligence and compassionate commitment of  those
individuals  whose  singular  purpose is the care and welfare of others;
and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
congratulate Dr. John DeTraglia upon  the  occasion  of  his  retirement
after 24 years of distinguished service to Midstate EMS; and

  WHEREAS,  John  DeTraglia  earned  both  his bachelor's and master's
degrees from the University of Rochester, and attended medical school at
the Upstate Medical Center-SUNY; he completed  his  residencies  at  the
Cleveland  Metropolitan  General Hospital and the University of Vermont,
School of Medicine; and

  WHEREAS, In 1973,  Dr.  John  DeTraglia  was  licensed  to  practice
medicine  in  New York State and on October 2, 1975, he was certified to
the American Board of Surgery; and

  WHEREAS,  Through  the  years,  Dr.  John  DeTraglia  held  numerous
positions  in  various  facilities;  in  1987,  he was appointed Medical
Director of Trauma Services at St. Elizabeth Medical  Center  in  Utica,
New York; and

  WHEREAS, In 1998, Dr. John DeTraglia began working with Midstate EMS
as a PHTLS Instructor, and quickly rose through the ranks holding titles
such  as  REMAC  Chair  and Regional Medical Director, the position from
which he will officially retire in 2022; and

  WHEREAS, In addition to his exemplary work with  Midstate  EMS,  Dr.
John  DeTraglia  was  a  vital  member  of  the  State Emergency Medical
Advisory Council, State Trauma Advisory Committee, and  Regional  Trauma
Advisory Committee; and

  WHEREAS,  For  his  steadfast  and  unremitting  commitment  to  his
profession and  patients,  Dr.  John  DeTraglia  was  the  recipient  of
numerous   awards   and  accolades  including  the  2005  Scroll  Award,
Outstanding Physician in the Tri-County Central New York Region  by  the
Central  New  York Academy of Medicine, and the 2006 NYS Commissioner of
Health Award, Excellence in EMS; he was also named the 2004  NYS  Trauma
Physician  of  Distinction, presented by NYS Division of American Trauma
Society, and the 2005 Physician of Excellence by Midstate EMS; and

  WHEREAS, Throughout his esteemed career, Dr. John  DeTraglia  served
his  patients  with  intelligence  and  caring  dedication, continuously
striving to effectively fulfill the duties of his position; and

  WHEREAS, As a leader in  his  profession,  Dr.  John  DeTraglia  has
proven  himself  to  be  a great asset to medicine and to the health and
welfare of the citizens of the State of New York; and

  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the  maintenance  of  high  standards  in  their
profession,  certainly  have  earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
congratulate  Dr.  John  DeTraglia  upon  the occasion of his retirement
after 24 years of distinguished service to Midstate EMS, and to wish him
well in all his future endeavors; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to Dr. John DeTraglia.
