        HONORING  Alicia Ashley upon the occasion of being
        inducted into the International Boxing Hall of  Fame
        on June 10-11, 2023

  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding  athletes  who  distinguished   themselves   through   their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; Alicia Ashley is one such athlete and her
life  of  athletic  achievements  inspired others and contributed to the
respect and admiration of the sport of boxing; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Alicia Ashley upon the occasion of being inducted into the International
Boxing  Hall  of  Fame  at  Hall  of Fame Weekend on June 10-11, 2023 in
Canastota, New York; and

  WHEREAS, Born on August 23, 1967 in Jamaica, Alicia Ashley moved  to
the United States at a young age and is a women's boxing participant who
is the former WBC female World Super Bantamweight champion; and

  WHEREAS,  Alicia  Ashley  began  her  professional  boxing career on
January 29, 1999, defeating Lisa Howarth by a six-round split  decision,
at Atlantic City, New Jersey; rebounding from a loss to Doris Hackl, she
won  after  an  eight-round  decision  against  Bonnie Canino at Tunica,
Mississippi; and

  WHEREAS, On June 29, 2000, Alicia Ashley beat "Downtown Leona Brown"
on points over eight rounds at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; on  September
3,  she  beat  Kelsey  Jeffries  in  a  redemption  match by a six-round
unanimous decision in Nevada; and

  WHEREAS, Having held many prestigious titles, Alicia Ashley captured
the IWBF World Featherweight title after defeating Kelsey Jeffries in  a
rematch by a ten-round split decision, the WIBF World Super Bantamweight
title   against  Marcela  Acuna  in  2003,  and  the  WBC  female  Super
Bantamweight title by a unanimous decision in 2011; and

  WHEREAS, With her throughout, have been  her  older  sisters,  chess
grandmaster  Maurice  Ashley  and former world kickboxing champion Devin
Ashley, both of whom have felt privileged to be a part of her  life  and
rejoice in her achievements; and

  WHEREAS,  Alicia Ashley clearly made a contribution to the spirit of
excellence which is a tradition of  the  International  Boxing  Hall  of
Fame; and

  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense  of  this  Legislative  Body  that when
individuals of such outstanding athletic accomplishments are brought  to
our  attention,  they  should  be recognized by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
honor  Alicia  Ashley  upon  the  occasion  of  being  inducted into the
International Boxing Hall of Fame on June 10-11, 2023; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Alicia Ashley.
