Senate Resolution No. 1517

        CELEBRATING   the   101st   playing   of  the  PGA
        Championship on the Black Course at  Bethpage  State
        Park in Farmingdale, New York, from May 13-19, 2019

  WHEREAS,  It  is  the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate
those sporting events of historical  significance  which  add  strength,
vigor  and  inspiration to the quality of life in the communities of the
State of New York; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
celebrate the 101st playing of the PGA Championship on the Black  Course
at  Bethpage  State Park in Farmingdale, New York, from May 13-19, 2019;
and

  WHEREAS, Hosted by the Professional Golfers' Association of America,
the  PGA  Championship  is  one  of  the  four  major  championships  in
professional  golf,  and  is  an  official  money event on the PGA Tour,
European Tour, and Japan Golf Tour; and

  WHEREAS, The 2019 Championship will establish  a  new  place  within
golf's  major  championship rotation, becoming the second of four annual
events and moving from August to May; and

  WHEREAS, In line with the other majors, winning the PGA Championship
gains privileges  which  improve  career  security;  PGA  champions  are
automatically  invited  to  play  in  the  other  three  majors, Masters
Tournament, U.S. Open,  and  The  Open  Championship,  and  The  Players
Championship  for  the  next  five  years,  and are eligible for the PGA
Championship for life; and

  WHEREAS, Champions also receive membership on the PGA Tour  for  the
following  five seasons and on the European Tour for the following seven
seasons; and

  WHEREAS, It is  the  sense  of  this  Legislative  Body  that  those
sporting  events  which  enhance  the  well-being  and  vitality  of its
community and have shown a long and sustained commitment  to  excellence
certainly  have  earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
celebrate  the 101st playing of the PGA Championship on the Black Course
at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, New York, from May  13-19,  2019;
and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Professional Golfers' Association of America.
