Senate Resolution No. 1580 BY: Senator COMRIE COMMEMORATING the 150th Anniversary of the Chapin Home for the Aging on May 31, 2019 WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize institutions which faithfully serve the needs of the community and its citizens with diligence and compassionate commitment to improving the quality and dignity of life in the community; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Chapin Home for the Aging, to be celebrated at an event on Friday, May 31, 2019; and WHEREAS, The Chapin Home for the Aging was founded in Manhattan, New York, in 1869, by Mrs. Edwin Chapin, wife of the celebrated orator and pastor; shortly thereafter, 20 other dedicated women joined in the new enterprise based on Dr. Chapin's philosophy of "What is your need, not your creed."; and WHEREAS, The Chapin Home for the Aging has served the New York City/Long Island community at its Jamaica, New York, location since 1910; today, the 220-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility and 50-registrant Adult Day Health Care Center maintains a 5-Star CMS rating for both quality of life and quality of care for its elder community; and WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Chapin Home for the Aging has strived to provide a true home for the aging men and women who live there by providing serenity and security which has always been envisioned as essential and appropriate to the latter part of life; and WHEREAS, The success of the Chapin Home for the Aging is in direct correlation to the efforts of its Administrator/Executive Vice President, Jennifer McManaman, Board of Trustees and staff, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the institution and the community it serves; and WHEREAS, For 150 years, the Chapin Home for the Aging has been dedicated to helping our elderly and disabled citizens; this facility has never lessened its concern for the dignity of every resident it serves, or compromised its standard of excellence for resident care; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Chapin Home for the Aging on May 31, 2019; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Jennifer McManaman, Administrator/Executive Vice President, Chapin Home for the Aging.
