        COMMEMORATING   the   50th   Anniversary   of  the
        Tanglewood Nature Center and Museum

  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that  the  quality
of  life of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched by
its exceptional cultural, educational and recreational institutions; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern  and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the  Tanglewood  Nature  Center  and
Museum to be celebrated at an event on Saturday, April 22, 2023; and

  WHEREAS,  During  this  auspicious  occasion,  the Tanglewood Nature
Center and Museum will proudly unveil a public art project; and

  WHEREAS, Since its  inception,  the  Tanglewood  Nature  Center  and
Museum  has  stayed  true  to  its  mission  of  leading  and supporting
education and preservation efforts in its region to achieve a heightened
awareness,  understanding,  enjoyment,  and  caring  for   our   natural
environment; and

  WHEREAS,  Established in April of 1973, the Tanglewood Nature Center
and Museum has gone from educating several  thousand  people  each  year
with  a few program animals to educating more than 35,000 each year with
more than 40 species of program and exhibit animals; and

  WHEREAS, The Tanglewood Nature Center  and  Museum  was  started  on
leased  land  and  in  a  small  building,  to  10 miles of trails and a
permanent site with a museum built in 2003, and a post  and  beam  lodge
educational space built in 2015; and

  WHEREAS,  The  museum's  trails encompass various habitats found all
across New York State; from the meadows of old farmlands, rounded  hills
formed  by ancient glaciers, complex wetlands including ponds and vernal
pools, expansive deciduous forests to the  steep  slopes  and  expansive
views of Frenchman's Bluff; and

  WHEREAS,  Through the generosity of many friends over the years, the
Tanglewood Nature Center and Museum are always free to visit, and  hosts
camps  for students in kindergarten through fifth grade each summer, and
adult team building, senior citizens, and library programming; and

  WHEREAS, The success of the Tanglewood Nature Center and  Museum  is
in  direct  correlation to the efforts of its dedicated staff and board,
whose  involvement  is,  and  always  has  been,  characterized  by   an
impressive  commitment,  an  unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising
standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf  of  the  organization
and the community it serves; and

  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  custom  of  this  Legislative  Body that when
institutions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought  to  our
attention,  they  should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it


  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the  Tanglewood  Nature  Center  and
Museum; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Tanglewood Nature Center and Museum.
