        COMMEMORATING   the   50th   Anniversary   of  the
        Speculator Volunteer Ambulance Corps

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize  and
pay  tribute  to those emergency medical technicians within the State of
New York who provide vital emergency medical rescue services; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Speculator  Volunteer  Ambulance
Corps; and

  WHEREAS,  The  Speculator Volunteer Ambulance Corps, which responded
to its first call for service on April 27, 1970, serves the  Village  of
Speculator  and Town of Lake Pleasant in Hamilton County, New York, with
mutual aid being provided as able to neighboring agencies;  it  responds
through  the  Hamilton  County  911  system,  and  handles an average of
approximately 175 calls each calendar year; and

  WHEREAS, The Speculator Volunteer Ambulance Corps is fully  licensed
by  the  State  Department  of  Heath  as an Advanced Life Support (ALS)
ambulance service; and

  WHEREAS, The Speculator Volunteer Ambulance Corps never charges  for
services  rendered  and  none  of  its  members  receive  any  financial
compensation, all are true  volunteers;  it  does  depend  on  voluntary
contributions for support, and does not use local tax monies; and

  WHEREAS,  The  Speculator  Volunteer  Ambulance Corps has one of the
longest trips in New York State to the nearest hospital facility; it  is
on average, 45 miles one way; and

  WHEREAS,  This  Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude
to those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life
is a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility their own by
providing life-saving emergency medical transportation services; and

  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative  Body  that  we  should
give  special  recognition  to  those  who  work  so assiduously for the
betterment of their communities, and  acknowledge  publicly  the  heroic
good  works  performed  by volunteer ambulance departments of this great
Empire State, their officers and auxiliaries; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
proudly  commemorate  the  50th  Anniversary of the Speculator Volunteer
Ambulance Corps; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to the Speculator Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
