KENNEDY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Investigations and Govern- ment Operations AN ACT to amend the legislative law, in relation to term limits for legislators THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. The legislative law is amended by adding a new section 2-a 2 to read as follows: 3 S 2-A. LEGISLATIVE TERM LIMITS. ANY INDIVIDUAL MAY SERVE A MAXIMUM OF 4 FIVE TWO-YEAR TERMS FOR THE STATE ASSEMBLY. ANY INDIVIDUAL MAY SERVE A 5 MAXIMUM OF FIVE TWO-YEAR TERMS FOR THE STATE SENATE. NO PERSON SHALL 6 SERVE MORE THAN TEN YEARS IN EACH HOUSE. NO PERSON SHALL HAVE MORE THAN 7 TWENTY YEARS OF SERVICE, IN THE AGGREGATE, AS A STATE LEGISLATOR. 8 S 2. This act shall take effect January 1, 2015; only terms commenced 9 on or after such date shall be counted toward an individual's years of 10 service.
