          printed to be committed to the Committee on Elections
        AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to the confidentiality  of
          registration records for victims of domestic violence
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section 1. Subdivision 2 of section 5-508  of  the  election  law,  as
     2  added by chapter 73 of the laws of 2010, is amended to read as follows:
     3    2. Upon application made to the supreme court, county court, or family
     4  court, in the county wherein a victim of domestic violence is registered
     5  pursuant to this article, the court [may] shall issue an order requiring
     6  that  any registration record kept or maintained in accordance with this
     7  article and any other records with respect to such an individual be kept
     8  separate and apart from other [registration] such  records  and  not  be
     9  made  available  for  inspection  or  copying by the public or any other
    10  person, except election officials acting within the course and scope  of
    11  their  official duties and only as pertinent and necessary in connection
    12  therewith.
    13    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
