        Introduced  by Sen. CARLUCCI -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Health

        AN ACT to amend the social services  law,  in  relation  to  prohibiting
          prior authorization for medically necessary and warranted ultrasounds

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 364-j of the social  services  law  is  amended  by
     2  adding a new subdivision 26-c to read as follows:
     3    26-c. Managed care providers shall not require prior authorization for
     4  any  ultrasound,  which,  in a physician's reasonable professional judg-
     5  ment, are medically necessary and warranted.
     6    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
