        Introduced  by  Sen. KENNEDY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules

        AN ACT to amend the insurance law, in  relation  to  allowing  insurance
          carriers to offer a discount to drivers who have been trained to oper-
          ate an authorized emergency vehicle

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 2336 of the insurance law is amended  by  adding  a
     2  new subsection (i) to read as follows:
     3    (i) A schedule of rates or rating plan for motor vehicle liability and
     4  collision  insurance  submitted to the superintendent may provide for an
     5  appropriate reduction in premium charges for any insured, for  a  period
     6  of  time  which  shall be determined by the superintendent, who has been
     7  trained to operate  an  authorized  emergency  vehicle,  as  defined  by
     8  section one hundred one of the vehicle and traffic law. On or before the
     9  effective  date  of  this subsection, the commissioner of motor vehicles
    10  shall create a form, which shall be posted on the  department  of  motor
    11  vehicles'  website, whereby employers of drivers of authorized emergency
    12  vehicles can affirm that a driver has in fact been trained to operate an
    13  authorized emergency vehicle.
    14    § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
    15  it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition,  amend-
    16  ment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implemen-
    17  tation  of  this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and
    18  completed on or before such effective date.
