A BILL
To enact section 3313.538 of the Revised Code to 1
prohibit disqualification of certain students who 2
live with legal or temporary custodians or with 3
guardians from interscholastic athletics solely 4
because their parents do not reside in the 5
state. 6


BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

       Section 1. That section 3313.538 of the Revised Code be 7
enacted to read as follows: 8

       Sec. 3313.538. (A) No student who attends school in this 9
state shall be denied the opportunity to participate in 10
interscholastic athletics solely because the student's parents do 11
not reside in this state, if the student resides in this state 12
with the student's grandparent, uncle, aunt, or sibling who has 13
legal or temporary custody of the student or is the guardian of 14
the student.15

       (B) No school district, school, interscholastic conference, 16
or organization that regulates interscholastic conferences or 17
events shall have a rule, bylaw, or other regulation that 18
conflicts with this section.19

       (C) As used in this section, "legal custody," "temporary 20
custody," and "guardian" have the same meanings as in section 21
2151.011 of the Revised Code.22
