A RESOLUTION

  

1

Designating April 16, 2011, as "Earth Day--Pennsylvania."

2

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has been endowed with true natural

3

beauty and an abundance of wood, water and natural resources;

4

and

5

WHEREAS, The founder of this Commonwealth, William Penn,

6

praised the land greatly after he saw it for the first time in

7

1682, noting "The country itself, its soil, air, water, seasons

8

and produce, both natural and artificial, is not to be

9

despised"; and

10

WHEREAS, While the General Assembly has taken action to

11

protect and preserve the natural resources of this Commonwealth,

12

the contamination of water and the despoliation of land continue

13

to be a problem and legislative concern; and

14

WHEREAS, We approach the 41st anniversary of the first Earth

Day, held in April of 1970, filled with resolve to protect the

2

natural resources of this Commonwealth for all future

3

generations; therefore be it

4

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate April

5

16, 2011, as "Earth Day--Pennsylvania"; and be it further

6

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives dedicate itself

7

to the proposition that the natural environment of this

8

Commonwealth must be protected and preserved.
