| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Honoring the life and achievements of Mr. Congie DeVito and |
2 | extending condolences to that of his family, friends and |
3 | countless colleagues. |
4 | WHEREAS, Serving as a testament to hard work and dedication, |
5 | Congie DeVito managed to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds |
6 | and emerged as captain not captive of his affliction; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Congie DeVito was born on July 25, 1975; and |
8 | WHEREAS, At the tender age of four, Congie DeVito testified |
9 | before Congress regarding securing more funding to research |
10 | "osteogenesis imperfecta," commonly called "brittle bone |
11 | disease"; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Congie DeVito was a graduate of Downingtown High |
13 | School in 1993 and Temple University in 1998; and |
14 | WHEREAS, His passion for horse racing, which was developed as |

1 | a result of family outings to Garden State Park, and his |
2 | doctrine of loyalty, perseverance and hard work in academia, |
3 | resulted in his subsequent employment with the renowned West |
4 | Point Thoroughbreds; and |
5 | WHEREAS, As Communications Director, Congie DeVito expertly |
6 | maintained the company's Internet website and served as the |
7 | liaison for stable partners by ensuring that they were both |
8 | educated and well informed about their investments; and |
9 | WHEREAS, As a token of West Point Thoroughbred's appreciation |
10 | for all of Congie DeVito's hard work and dedication, he was |
11 | bestowed with the distinguished honor of having a horse aptly |
12 | named "King Congie" after him; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Both the man and the thoroughbred which bears his |
14 | namesake are the epitome of determination and fortitude; and |
15 | WHEREAS, His good friend John Chaney and the athletic |
16 | department of his alma mater Temple University dedicated the |
17 | Congie DeVito Award in recognition of athletes who exemplify the |
18 | characteristics of loyalty and perseverance; and |
19 | WHEREAS, On February 16, 2011, Congie DeVito passed away at |
20 | 35 years of age, leaving behind a spirit of faith and optimism |
21 | in the face of misfortune to all those who have had the |
22 | privilege of crossing his path; therefore be it |
23 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives express its |
24 | profound sorrow over the passing of Mr. Congie DeVito and extend |
25 | its heartfelt condolences to that of his family, friends and |
26 | innumerable colleagues. |
