A RESOLUTION

Expressing condolences upon the death of Joseph G. Clayborne

2

III, Chief of the West Conshohocken Police Department, and

3

extending gratitude for his many years of service to the

4

people of Montgomery County.

5

WHEREAS, Joseph G. Clayborne III, the recently retired Chief

6

of Police of the West Conshohocken Police Department, died

7

suddenly on April 24, 2009, at 59 years of age; and

8

WHEREAS, Prior to his retirement, Chief Clayborne served the

9

borough of West Conshohocken as its chief of police for 25

10

years, beginning in 1983, and had a total of 36 years in law

11

enforcement with the borough; and

12

WHEREAS, Chief Clayborne also served as a deputy sheriff of

13

Montgomery County; and

14

WHEREAS, Chief Clayborne served and protected his community

15

with compassion and volunteered many hours to numerous

16

charities, especially distributing Thanksgiving dinners to

17

families in need and distributing Christmas toys to West

18

Conshohocken borough children; and

19

WHEREAS, Chief Clayborne was a Vietnam veteran who served

this nation as a helicopter door gunner in the United States

2

Army 101st Airborne; and

3

WHEREAS, A parishioner of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church,

4

Chief Clayborne attended its grade school and Upper Merion High

5

School; and

6

WHEREAS, Chief Clayborne was a member of the Police Chiefs

7

Association of Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Chiefs of

8

Police Association, the Montgomery County Fraternal Order of

9

Police Lodge No. 14, the Pennsylvania Association of Arson

10

Investigators, the George Clay Fire Company, the Conshohocken

11

Number 2 Fire Company, the Gladwynne Veterans of Foreign Wars

12

Post No. 6956, the American Turners Club of Roxborough, the TK

13

Club and the Conshohocken Bocce' Club; and

14

WHEREAS, Chief Clayborne is survived by his wife, Cynthia,

15

and his son, Joseph, and daughter, Jennifer, two brothers, three

16

sisters and nieces and nephews; and

17

WHEREAS, For his many years of public service, Chief

18

Clayborne has earned the gratitude of this Commonwealth;

19

therefore be it

20

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives express

21

condolences upon the death of Joseph G. Clayborne III, Chief of

22

the West Conshohocken Police Department, and extend gratitude

23

for his many years of service to the people of Montgomery

24

County; and be it further

25

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to

26

Mrs. Joseph G. Clayborne III, 163 Moorehead Avenue,

27

Conshohocken, PA 19428.
