A RESOLUTION

Honoring the 25th anniversary of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.

2

WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust was incorporated in

3

1984 as a 501(c)(3) organization and was created to lead the

4

cultural and economic development of downtown Pittsburgh; and

5

WHEREAS, Using arts as a catalyst, the trust's board and

6

staff have pursued the vision of a dynamic cultural district and

7

developed a nationally recognized model which is revitalizing

8

the center-city area of Pittsburgh and improving regional

9

economy and quality of life; and

10

WHEREAS, The trust has restored classic grand theaters,

11

constructed new facilities, commissioned public art projects and

12

developed unique urban parks and riverfront recreation spaces in

13

the center-city area of Pittsburgh; and

14

WHEREAS, Through its banners and streetscaping projects, the

trust has improved the physical and aesthetic environment of the

2

center-city area of Pittsburgh; and

3

WHEREAS, The trust's leadership and achievements have

4

stimulated a dramatic transformation of 14 formerly dilapidated

5

blocks along Penn and Liberty Avenues in the center-city area of

6

Pittsburgh; and

7

WHEREAS, The trust has helped to attract more than 1 million

8

visitors to the region for more than 2,200 events in the

9

cultural district year-round; and

10

WHEREAS, The economic activity generated from ticket sales to

11

those events generated $6,300,000; and

12

WHEREAS, The trust has brought world-class performances to

13

the region, including Radio City Music Hall's Christmas

14

Spectacular starring the Rockettes, Wicked and Jersey Boys; and

15

WHEREAS, The trust is now the third largest nonprofit arts

16

and cultural organization in this Commonwealth; therefore be it 

17

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the 25th

18

anniversary of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust; and be it further

19

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the

20

Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, 803 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA

21

15222.
