A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and designating the month of October 2011 as

2

"Dignity & Respect Month" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, In November 2008, an initiative intended to create a

4

more harmonious work environment was introduced by the Center

5

for Inclusion at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center;

6

and

7

WHEREAS, The success of this undertaking laid the groundwork

8

for the broader scope initiative of the Dignity & Respect

9

Campaign; and

10

WHEREAS, On October 1, 2009, the Dignity & Respect Campaign

11

was launched as a community initiative intended to encourage and

12

promote the message of inclusion predicated upon the core belief

13

that everyone deserves dignity and respect; and

14

WHEREAS, The Dignity & Respect Campaign is founded on the

15

basic principles of empathy and treating others as they

16

themselves would want to be treated; and

WHEREAS, The "30 Tips of Dignity & Respect" were developed in

2

an effort to highlight the simple acts of kindness that can

3

easily be incorporated into our everyday behavior; and

4

WHEREAS, The positive modification of our social behavior is

5

critical in fostering diversity and inclusion in the workplace,

6

discouraging bullying in schools and developing more unified

7

communities; and

8

WHEREAS, As we endeavor to make Pennsylvania a more peaceful

9

State, one which will serve as a model for others across the

10

nation, the "30 Tips of Dignity & Respect" should be adopted and

11

practiced by all citizens of this Commonwealth; and

12

WHEREAS, The Dignity & Respect Campaign challenges all

13

citizens to take and uphold the Dignity & Respect Pledge in an

14

effort to make dignity and respect a part of the very fabric of

15

this Commonwealth; therefore be it

16

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize and

17

designate the month of October 2011 as "Dignity & Respect Month"

18

in Pennsylvania.
