A RESOLUTION

Designating March 30, 2010, as "National Doctors' Day" in

Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, National Doctors' Day is held every year on March 30

4

in the United States as a day to celebrate the contribution of

5

physicians who serve our country by caring for its citizens; and

6

WHEREAS, The first Doctors' Day observance was March 30,

7

1933, in Winder, Georgia, when Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr.

8

Charles B. Almond, decided to set aside a day to honor

9

physicians; and

10

WHEREAS, In 1990, Congress designated March 30, 1991, as

11

"National Doctors' Day" by the joint resolution of October 30,

12

1990 (Public Law 101-473, 104 Stat. 1096); and

13

WHEREAS, Society owes a debt of gratitude to physicians for

14

the contributions of physicians in enlarging the reservoir of

15

scientific knowledge, increasing the number of scientific tools

16

and expanding the ability of health professionals to use the

17

knowledge and tools effectively in the never-ending fight

against disease; and

WHEREAS, Society owes a debt of gratitude to physicians for

3

the sympathy and compassion of physicians in ministering to the

4

sick and in alleviating human suffering; therefore be it

5

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate March

6

30, 2010, as "National Doctors' Day" in Pennsylvania.
