A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MRS. HELEN ROVENDER (MALLOY) HUMPHREY OF BENNETTSVILLE IN MARLBORO COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Mrs. Helen Rovender (Malloy) Humphrey of Bennettsville in Marlboro County will celebrate her one hundredth birthday on August 16, 2016; and

Whereas, born the third of eight children to Isaiah and Martha Malloy, the young Helen came into this world on August 16, 1916, when the twentieth century was still in its youth, and she has been witness to nearly all the incredible changes and developments that have come to this nation from that time into the second decade of the twenty-first century; and

Whereas, in preparation for her professional calling, Helen earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education at South Carolina State College in Orangeburg. Upon graduation, she, like four of her sisters, pursued a career in public education; and

Whereas, her work as an elementary teacher would span three decades of service in the public schools of Aiken, Horry, and Marlboro counties; and

Whereas, this woman of faith found her spiritual home at Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tatum, which later merged to become Trinity United Methodist Church of Bennettsville. She remains a committed member; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to honor this truly lovely lady at the celebration of her one hundredth birthday, and the members join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Mrs. Helen Rovender (Malloy) Humphrey of Bennettsville in Marlboro County on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and much happiness in the days ahead.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Helen Rovender (Malloy) Humphrey.
