relating to the requirements for an honorably retired peace officer | ||
to obtain a license to carry a handgun. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 411.199, Government Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows: | ||
(b-1) An applicant under this section is not required to | ||
complete the handgun proficiency course described by Section | ||
411.188 to obtain a license under this subchapter if the applicant: | ||
(1) complies with Subsection (b) and the other | ||
requirements of this subchapter; and | ||
(2) submits the application not later than the fifth | ||
anniversary of the applicant's date of retirement from the law | ||
enforcement agency. | ||
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only | ||
to an application to obtain a license to carry a handgun submitted | ||
on or after the effective date of this Act. An application | ||
submitted before the effective date of this Act is governed by the | ||
law in effect on the date the application was submitted, and the | ||
former law is continued in effect for that purpose. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
