A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to enforcement of the regulation of social media
  platforms.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter D, Chapter 120, Business & Commerce
  Code, is amended by adding Sections 120.152 and 120.153 to read as
  follows:
         Sec. 120.152.  ATTORNEY GENERAL INVESTIGATIVE AUTHORITY. If
  the attorney general has reason to believe that a person has engaged
  in, is engaging in, or is about to engage in a violation of this
  chapter, the attorney general may issue a civil investigative
  demand. The procedures established for the issuance of a civil
  investigative demand under Section 15.10 apply to the same extent
  and manner to the issuance of a civil investigative demand under
  this section. The attorney general may seek an order from the
  district court compelling compliance with a civil investigative
  demand issued under this section.
         Sec. 120.153.  DECEPTIVE TRADE PRACTICE. A violation of
  this chapter is a false, misleading, or deceptive act or practice
  under Subchapter E, Chapter 17, and is actionable under that
  subchapter.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
