A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the jurisdiction of a court over a child in the managing
  conservatorship of the state after the child's 18th birthday.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 263.608, Family Code, is amended as
  follows:
         Sec. 263.608.  RIGHTS OF YOUNG ADULT.
         (a)  A young adult who consents to the continued jurisdiction
  of the court has the same rights as any other adult of the same age.
         (b)  The court is prohibited from extending trial
  independence status as described by Section 263.6015(c) or
  extending jurisdiction over a young adult as described by Section
  263.602 if a young adult objects in court or in writing.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  act takes effect September 1, 2023.
