A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to inclusion of a course on the United States Constitution
  in the curriculum requirements for public high school students.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 28.025, Education Code, is amended by
  adding Subsection (c-2) to read as follows:
         (c-2)  The State Board of Education shall adopt rules
  requiring students enrolled in grade level 12 to complete a course
  on the United States Constitution as part of a district's social
  studies curriculum.
         SECTION 2.  Section 28.025(c-2), Education Code, as added by
  this Act, applies beginning with students who enter the ninth grade
  during the 2011-2012 school year.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the
  legislative session.
