relating to inclusion of a course on the United States Constitution | ||
in the curriculum requirements for public high school students. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 28.025, Education Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subsection (c-2) to read as follows: | ||
(c-2) The State Board of Education shall adopt rules | ||
requiring students enrolled in grade level 12 to complete a course | ||
on the United States Constitution as part of a district's social | ||
studies curriculum. | ||
SECTION 2. Section 28.025(c-2), Education Code, as added by | ||
this Act, applies beginning with students who enter the ninth grade | ||
during the 2011-2012 school year. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the | ||
legislative session. |
