relating to a requirement that school districts and open-enrollment | ||
charter schools use metal detectors on each campus. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 37, Education Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 37.111 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 37.111. REQUIRED METAL DETECTORS. At each school | ||
building located on a campus in which students attend class or | ||
school-sponsored activities, a school district or open-enrollment | ||
charter school shall screen persons entering the building for | ||
weapons by installing a walk-through metal detector or using a | ||
handheld metal detector at each entrance to the building that is | ||
accessible from the outside. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024 | ||
school year. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
