relating to the use of public funds to print certain public | ||
documents in a language other than English and other bilingual | ||
requirements. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Chapter 2051, Government Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subchapter D to read as follows: | ||
SUBCHAPTER D. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS FOR STATE DOCUMENTS | ||
Sec. 2051.076. USE OF PUBLIC MONEY TO PRINT PUBLIC | ||
DOCUMENTS IN LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH. (a) In this section, | ||
"state agency" means a board, commission, department, office, | ||
institution, including an institution of higher education as | ||
defined by Section 61.003, Education Code, or other agency in the | ||
executive branch of the state government. | ||
(b) Notwithstanding any other law, and except as provided by | ||
Subsection (c), a state agency may not use public money to print a | ||
public document in a language other than English. | ||
(c) This section does not apply to: | ||
(1) a historical document originally printed in a | ||
language other than English; or | ||
(2) a document required under federal law or by the | ||
federal government to be printed in a language other than English. | ||
SECTION 2. Chapter 272, Election Code, is repealed. | ||
SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies only | ||
to a document printed by a state agency on or after the effective | ||
date of this Act. | ||
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
