WHEREAS, Texas and the State of Israel have mutually | ||
benefited from an enduring relationship forged through common | ||
values and historical and cultural ties; and | ||
WHEREAS, The United States became the first country to | ||
recognize Israel as a sovereign nation in 1948, and since that time, | ||
the two great lands have been strengthened by their alliance in | ||
economic trade, diplomacy, and national security; and | ||
WHEREAS, Through the years, trade has been a vital link | ||
between Texas and Israel, with state exports to Israel totaling | ||
nearly $600 million in 2013; this strong commercial partnership has | ||
resulted in more robust economies and even greater cross-cultural | ||
understanding; and | ||
WHEREAS, Relations between Texas and Israel have | ||
immeasurably contributed to the prosperity enjoyed by both, and | ||
their lasting friendship is a testament to the profound respect and | ||
steadfast commitment that they share; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the 84th Legislature of the State of Texas | ||
hereby declare the State of Israel a major strategic ally of Texas | ||
and reaffirm its dedication to continuing their long-standing and | ||
productive relationship. |
