proposing a constitutional amendment relating to the right to life | ||
beginning at fertilization. | ||
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 19, Article I, Texas Constitution, is | ||
amended to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 19. (a) No citizen of this State shall be deprived of | ||
life, liberty, property, privileges or immunities, or in any manner | ||
disfranchised, except by the due course of the law of the land. | ||
(b) The protections of this section regarding the right to | ||
life apply from the point of fertilization, when genetic | ||
information is gathered inside a cell, until death. The | ||
protections of this article regarding the life of an unborn child | ||
apply to the unborn child of any woman physically present in this | ||
state. | ||
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | ||
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 8, 2011. | ||
The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the | ||
proposition: "The constitutional amendment protecting life from | ||
the point of fertilization." |
