WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the | ||
death of Bob Marshall of Houston on November 3, 2016, at the age of | ||
95; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born on May 9, 1921, Mr. Marshall served during | ||
World War II as the executive officer of the 293rd Field Artillery | ||
Sound and Flash Battalion and as commander of Battery A; he saw | ||
heavy combat along the Brittany coast in France and earned the | ||
Meritorious Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the | ||
European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, | ||
and the World War II Victory Medal; after the war, Mr. Marshall | ||
continued to serve in the army reserve; he was called back to active | ||
duty during the Korean War and the Cuban missile crisis, and he | ||
retired after 35 years at the rank of colonel; and | ||
WHEREAS, In civilian life, Mr. Marshall was an engineer and | ||
research and development manager with the Ethyl Corporation for 35 | ||
years; in 1982, he began a 30-year tenure with the Meyerland | ||
Community Improvement Association, during which time he helped lead | ||
the effort to raise $500 million in funding for Project Brays Flood | ||
Control; moreover, he was a member of the Harris County Flood | ||
Control Task Force for over 30 years; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Marshall's extensive community involvement | ||
included leadership in the Meyerland Little League program, over | ||
four decades' service as an election judge, and 25 years' service as | ||
head usher at St. Thomas More Catholic Church; he held life | ||
membership in the Republican National Committee and charter | ||
membership in the National World War II Museum and the National | ||
Museum of the U.S. Army; and | ||
WHEREAS, A loving husband and father, Mr. Marshall was joined | ||
in matrimony to the former Edie Hammond from 1944 until her death in | ||
2001; the couple were blessed with five children, Jane Evans, Cille | ||
Crago, Kathy Card, Bobby Marshall, and the late Debbie Harris, as | ||
well as 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, Bob Marshall dedicated his life to his family, his | ||
nation, and his community, and he leaves behind a record of service | ||
that will continue to inspire all those who knew and loved him; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Bob Marshall and | ||
extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends; and, be it | ||
further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bob | ||
Marshall. | ||
