WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Dr. Ennis Holmes of | ||
Mexia were deeply saddened by his passing on July 17, 2020, at the | ||
age of 82; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born in Houston on April 10, 1938, Ennis Holmes was | ||
the son of Ennis R. Holmes and Hester B. Robertson Askew, and he | ||
grew up with the companionship of his four siblings, Frances, | ||
Tommy, Larry, and Johnny; following his graduation from Mexia High | ||
school, he answered his nation's call to duty and joined the United | ||
States Navy; he later attended Texas A&M University, where he | ||
earned his doctorate in veterinary medicine; and | ||
WHEREAS, Dr. Holmes began his career as a veterinarian when | ||
he opened Holmes Animal Clinic in his stepfather's barn in | ||
Coolidge; he went on to move his practice to Mexia, where he | ||
continued to provide care until his retirement in March 2019; in | ||
addition, he served as director of the Texas Animal Health | ||
Commission in Beeville and taught microbiology at Navarro College; | ||
he was also a cattle rancher, and he enjoyed playing golf in his | ||
leisure time; and | ||
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Dr. Holmes was a member of | ||
the Limestone County Appraisal Review Board, and he served as | ||
president of the Mexia Ex-Students Association; a man of faith, he | ||
was a valued congregant of the First United Methodist Church, where | ||
he was an usher; and | ||
WHEREAS, Dr. Holmes married Charlse Ann Moody, and they | ||
became the proud parents of a daughter, Holly; with the passing | ||
years, Dr. Holmes had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to | ||
include two grandsons, Christian and Cameron, and a | ||
great-granddaughter, Blakely; and | ||
WHEREAS, Dr. Ennis Holmes lived a rich and purposeful life, | ||
and he will forever be remembered with deep affection by all who | ||
held him close to their hearts; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Ennis Holmes and | ||
extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his | ||
daughter, Holly Kuehn, and her husband, Heath; to his grandsons, | ||
Christian Ellison and Cameron Ellison and his wife, Shelby; to his | ||
great-granddaughter, Blakely Ellison; to his brother, Johnny | ||
Holmes, and his wife, Charlotte; to his brother-in-law, Allen | ||
Miller; to his sisters-in-law, Laura Beth Holmes-Tuscana and | ||
Cynthia Holmes; to his many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and to his | ||
other relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Ennis | ||
Holmes. | ||
