R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Maria Jose Arauz Henriquez of Nicaragua and other
  professionals from Latin America were invited to participate in a
  U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program
  in May 2013, and Dallas was among the cities included on their tour;
  and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1940, IVLP connects current and
  emerging foreign leaders with their American counterparts through
  short-term exchanges; an initiative of the Bureau of Educational
  and Cultural Affairs, the program centers around a project theme
  and typically includes visits to four U.S. communities; and
         WHEREAS, With a focus on the administration of justice, this
  IVLP event was designed to help leaders from other countries deepen
  their understanding of the civil, criminal, juvenile, and military
  justice systems in the United States; participants examined the
  underlying principles of the U.S. judicial and legal systems and
  studied the administration of courts, case management, the trial by
  jury process, and alternative dispute resolution; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Arauz Henriquez brought a valuable perspective
  to the experience; she holds a master's degree in business law from
  National Autonomous University of Nicaragua-Managua and is First
  Family District Judge in Managua; she also is a member of a
  commission concerning international agreements on administrative
  and judicial procedures; and
         WHEREAS, The International Visitor Leadership Program helps
  bridge cultural and political divides, and the exchange of ideas
  that the program facilitates is sure to benefit citizens of
  Nicaragua and the United States; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Maria Jose Arauz
  Henriquez for her participation in the U.S. Department of State
  International Visitor Leadership Program in May 2013 and extend to
  her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Arauz Henriquez as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
