WHEREAS, Petty Officer First Class Sherrae Brissette is | ||
retiring from the U.S. Navy on May 31, 2015, drawing to a close two | ||
decades of distinguished service to this nation; and | ||
WHEREAS, A native of Victoria, Sherrae Brissette graduated | ||
from Pine Forest Senior High School in Fayetteville, North | ||
Carolina, in 1992, and in May 1995, she answered her nation's call | ||
to duty and joined the U.S. Navy; and | ||
WHEREAS, After completing basic training at Naval Station | ||
Great Lakes in Illinois, Ms. Brissette attended Hospital Corps | ||
School; in November 1995, she reported for duty as a hospital | ||
corpsman at Naval Hospital Great Lakes, and she then served as a | ||
hospital apprentice at Naval Hospital Portsmouth, Virginia; | ||
following a tour at Branch Medical Clinic in Ingleside, Texas, | ||
Hospitalman Brissette joined the crew of the USS Carl Vinson in 1999 | ||
and was promoted to petty officer third class; she also earned her | ||
first Navy Achievement Medal for coming to the aid of a heart attack | ||
victim; and | ||
WHEREAS, From 2001 to 2003, Petty Officer Brissette served in | ||
Guam, and in 2003, she transferred to the Military Entrance | ||
Processing Station in Dallas, where she screened applicants and was | ||
named Sailor of the Year in 2004; the following year, she worked at | ||
the Recruit Training Command, qualifying as a master training | ||
specialist, and in 2007, she was the "company gunny" in charge of | ||
her battalion at the Field Medic School at Camp Pendleton; promoted | ||
to petty officer second class, she next served as leading petty | ||
officer at Branch Medical Clinic Barstow, where she was again named | ||
Sailor of the Year; and | ||
WHEREAS, In January 2008, Petty Officer Brissette deployed to | ||
Iraq as squadron corpsman with Marine Attack Squadron VMA-311; | ||
after returning to the states, she served again at Branch Health | ||
Clinic Barstow until 2010, when she was promoted to petty officer | ||
first class and assigned as the medical leading petty officer for | ||
Combat Logistics Battalion 6 at Camp Lejeune; she deployed with | ||
that unit in 2011 to Afghanistan, where she led 32 corpsmen at the | ||
Camp Bastion trauma hospital; in 2012, she returned stateside to | ||
finish her career in the medical department at the Naval | ||
Operational Support Center Houston; and | ||
WHEREAS, The military awards conferred on Petty Officer | ||
Brissette include two Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medals, five | ||
Good Conduct Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, the Iraq | ||
Campaign Medal, and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal; and | ||
WHEREAS, Petty Officer Sherrae Brissette has cared for | ||
sailors and marines of the U.S. armed forces in wartime and in | ||
peacetime, at posts across the country and around the world, and her | ||
skill, professionalism, and compassion have earned her the | ||
gratitude of her patients and the enduring respect of all with whom | ||
she has worked; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate Petty Officer First Class Sherrae | ||
Brissette on her retirement from the U.S. Navy and extend to her | ||
sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it | ||
further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Petty Officer Brissette as an expression of high | ||
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. | ||
