R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Sam Bennett of Texas A&M University added to his
  impressive list of achievements with an unforgettable performance
  at the 2023 Masters golf tournament; and
         WHEREAS, A fifth-year senior for the Aggies' golf team,
  Mr. Bennett secured a spot in the Masters field as the reigning U.S.
  Amateur champion; demonstrating power and finesse, he hit
  93 percent of the fairways over the first two days of play, firing
  back-to-back rounds of 68 on the challenging course at the Augusta
  National Golf Club in Georgia; he finished tied for 16th place
  overall, earning low amateur honors, and on Sunday, April 9, while
  completing his fourth and final round, he experienced the thrill of
  receiving a standing ovation as he walked the fairway to the 18th
  green; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Bennett first gained acclaim at Madisonville
  High School, where he won the 2016 4A state golf championship and
  was the 2017 4A silver medalist; moreover, he claimed a runner-up
  finish at the 2015 Texas State Junior Championship; and
         WHEREAS, Since joining the Texas A&M men's golf squad for the
  2018-2019 season, Mr. Bennett has continued his run of success; he
  was named to the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team, and he
  is a two-time First Team All-American and All Central-Region pick;
  during the 2021-2022 season, he competed in 10 tournaments,
  breaking the school record for lowest stroke average at 69.97,
  while collecting SEC Golfer of the Year honors; moreover, he made
  the Team USA roster for the 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup and was a
  finalist for the Ben Hogan and Fred Haskins Awards in addition to
  claiming his U.S. Amateur championship in August 2022; and
         WHEREAS, With his remarkable showing at the 2023 Masters, Sam
  Bennett has proven himself one of the most promising young players
  in the sport of golf, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his
  many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Sam Bennett on winning low amateur
  honors at the 2023 Masters golf tournament and extend to him sincere
  best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Bennett as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
