R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Arte Texas, an organization dedicated to restoring
  and creating murals in East Austin, is doing commendable work to
  preserve the unique cultural identity of this historic community;
  and
         WHEREAS, In 2015, Bertha Delgado enlisted a group of East
  Austin artists to form Arte Texas in an effort to ensure the
  continued existence of Chicano murals in the rapidly changing
  neighborhood; hailing from a family with deep roots in East Austin,
  Ms. Delgado led the organization in securing community support for
  its first project, the restoration of a mural known as La Lotería,
  which was completed through the collective efforts of members of
  the group and a number of local volunteers; and
         WHEREAS, Beyond restoring iconic murals, Arte Texas has led
  the way in reinvigorating public spaces in East Austin through the
  creation of new murals evoking the history and character of the
  area; recently, Ms. Delgado's team completed a mural depicting
  civil rights activist Cesar Chavez, which showcases the vibrant
  colors and intricate details that have historically been featured
  in works of street art on the east side; Arte Texas collaborated
  with the East Town Lake Citizens Neighborhood Association and
  nearby business owners to bring the mural to life, and the project
  received official endorsement with a proclamation from the City of
  Austin; and
         WHEREAS, Arte Texas is demonstrating the power of public art
  to celebrate creative expression, foster a sense of cultural pride,
  and reflect and embrace the diversity of the surrounding community,
  and the organization is making an invaluable contribution to East
  Austin through its many endeavors; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Arte Texas for its work to preserve and
  create murals in East Austin and extend to Bertha Delgado and all
  those involved in furthering the mission of the organization
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Arte Texas as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
