| WHEREAS, Alejandro Jorge Olvera has been named a 2016 Corpus | ||
| Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar in | ||
| the science category; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished | ||
| Scholars program was established to reward local students who have | ||
| demonstrated excellence in specific areas of achievement; since its | ||
| inception in 1988, hundreds of young men and women have been | ||
| selected for this prestigious honor, and each of the 2016 winners | ||
| received a $1,000 scholarship to help fund their college studies; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, The son of Glenda Huerta and Ruben Olvera and the | ||
| stepson of Roberto Huerta, A. J. Olvera is a senior at Calallen | ||
| Charter High School, where he is ranked first in his class of 25 | ||
| students and maintains a 5.5 grade point average; in addition to | ||
| earning high marks, he has also served as president of the National | ||
| Honor Society and volunteered with the Rotary Interact Club for | ||
| youth; after graduation, he plans to study astrophysics; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has pursued his goals | ||
| with tremendous dedication, and he may take great pride in all that | ||
| he has accomplished as he looks ahead to a future bright with | ||
| promise; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby congratulate Alejandro Jorge Olvera on his | ||
| selection as a 2016 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas | ||
| Distinguished Scholar and extend to him sincere best wishes for | ||
| continued success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Mr. Olvera as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
