WHEREAS, Terry Gambill announced his retirement as head | ||
football coach at Allen High School on March 16, 2021, drawing to a | ||
close an exemplary career that spanned 36 years; and | ||
WHEREAS, Coach Gambill became the Allen head coach in 2016; | ||
under his direction, the Eagles compiled a record of 65 wins and | ||
just 4 losses over the course of five years and never lost a regular | ||
season matchup; the highlight of his tenure came in 2017, when the | ||
team won the 6A Division 1 state championship with a perfect 16-0 | ||
record; Allen also made strong championship bids in 2016 and 2018, | ||
advancing all the way to the semifinals; and | ||
WHEREAS, This experienced mentor started his career in 1985 | ||
as a ninth-grade coach at Garland High School and went on to work as | ||
an assistant at Duncanville, Southlake Carroll, and Forney; he next | ||
served as the defensive coordinator at Allen for nine seasons, | ||
including during the Eagles' first state championship run in 2008; | ||
named head coach at Midway High School in Waco in 2010, he guided | ||
the Panthers to a 68-13 record and reached the UIL 4A Division 1 | ||
state final in 2011; and | ||
WHEREAS, An alumnus of Garland High School, Coach Gambill | ||
played football at Tarleton State University, where he twice earned | ||
first team all-conference recognition and was an honorable mention | ||
NAIA All-American his senior season; he was inducted into the TSU | ||
Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998; and | ||
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Coach Gambill enjoys the love | ||
and support of his wife, Cindy, and he takes tremendous pride in his | ||
children, Chase, Cody, and Kayce, and in his three grandchildren; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Through his vision and leadership, Terry Gambill has | ||
helped carry on a proud tradition of gridiron excellence at Allen | ||
High School, and he may reflect with pride on his many achievements | ||
as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate Terry Gambill on his retirement as | ||
head coach of the Allen High School football team and extend to him | ||
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Coach Gambill as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. | ||
