A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to a study on the impact of illegal immigration in this
  state.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 411, Government Code, is
  amended by adding Section 411.02091 to read as follows:
         Sec. 411.02091.  IMMIGRATION IMPACT STUDY. (a)  The
  department shall conduct an annual study on the environmental,
  safety, and community impact of illegal immigration in this state,
  including any impact to the Texas electric grid.
         (b)  The department may collaborate or contract with a state
  or federal agency, a political subdivision, an institution of
  higher education, or a nonprofit organization or other private
  entity to assist in conducting the study required by this section.
         (c)  Not later than September 1 of each year, the department
  shall prepare and submit a report to the governor, lieutenant
  governor, and legislature containing the results of the study
  conducted under this section.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
