| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 411, Government Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 411.02091 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 411.02091. IMMIGRATION IMPACT STUDY. (a) The | ||
| department shall conduct an annual study on the environmental, | ||
| safety, and community impact of illegal immigration in this state, | ||
| including any impact to the Texas electric grid. | ||
| (b) The department may collaborate or contract with a state | ||
| or federal agency, a political subdivision, an institution of | ||
| higher education, or a nonprofit organization or other private | ||
| entity to assist in conducting the study required by this section. | ||
| (c) Not later than September 1 of each year, the department | ||
| shall prepare and submit a report to the governor, lieutenant | ||
| governor, and legislature containing the results of the study | ||
| conducted under this section. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. | ||
