SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, There were more than 4,000 gun-related deaths in
  Texas in 2020 and gun violence in Texas costs $16.6 billion dollars
  per year; and
         WHEREAS, Texas also leads the United States in the number of
  firearm mortalities, from 1999-2020, 4,090 Texas children died from
  gun-related injuries; and
         WHEREAS, Texas also leads the Nation in mass shootings; and
         WHEREAS, On May 24, 2022, 19 school children and two teachers
  were murdered during the attack on Robb Elementary in Uvalde Texas
  using a weapon manufactured by Daniel Defense; and
         WHEREAS, the Confederate Soldiers Monument on the South
  Grounds of the Capitol commemorates Texas' ignoble secession from
  the Union and the Confederate States of America's dangerous and
  immoral quest to enslave human beings; and
         WHEREAS, The victims of mass shootings in Texas should not be
  forgotten in our hearts and minds; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Confederate Soldiers Monument on the South
  grounds of the Capitol shall be removed and placed in the Austin
  State Cemetery; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby approve the construction of a statue or monument in the place
  of the Confederate Soldiers Monument that pays tribute to Texans
  lost in mass shootings; and be it further
         RESOLVED, That the statue or monument memorializing the
  fallen in mass shootings in Texas be wholly funded by private
  donations and that donor's names not be inscribed on the statue or
  monument; and be it further
         RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward official copies
  of this resolution to the executive director of the State
  Preservation Board.
