SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 113
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Dorothy Barbara Williams Bickham
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Dorothy Barbara Williams Bickham, who
  died in June of 2013 at the age of 88; and
 
         WHEREAS, Dorothy Barbara Williams was born June 19, 1924,
  in Oklahoma City to Beatrice and Edwin Williams; she was a
  graduate of Douglass High School, where she played violin in the
  orchestra and was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps and the
  Girl Reserves; and
 
         WHEREAS, She earned a bachelor's degree in music from Fisk
  University, and while she was studying for her master's degree at
  the University of Michigan, she met her future husband, Luzine
  Bickham; and
 
         WHEREAS, After their marriage, the couple moved to
  Houston, and Mrs. Bickham began a long and fulfilling career as
  an educator; over the years, she had a profound impact on the
  lives of thousands of students; she was a beloved teacher who
  instilled in her students a sense of pride and a lifelong love of
  learning; and
 
         WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her faith in her
  daily life, Mrs. Bickham was a faithful, longtime member of
  Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ, where she served
  as Chancel Choir pianist for more than 40 years; she was also a
  member of numerous committees and ministries and was honored as
  Mother of the Year in 1981 by the Servettes; and
 
         WHEREAS, She was active in many community organizations,
  including the Houston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta
  Sorority, Incorporated, the Friends of Houston Ebony Opera
  Guild, and the Parkwood Drive Civic Club; and
 
         WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she
  gave generously to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued
  counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and
 
         WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother,
  and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
  her family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere
  condolences to the bereaved family of Dorothy Barbara Williams
  Bickham; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Dorothy Bickham.
