WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
recognize the Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta | ||
Sorority, Incorporated, and the other North Texas chapters that | ||
are hosting the National Torch Tour honoring the sorority's | ||
centennial and its 22 founders; and | ||
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is the largest African | ||
American sorority in the world and is dedicated to a program that | ||
promotes economic and educational development, international | ||
awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and | ||
political awareness and involvement; and | ||
WHEREAS, Other North Texas chapters working to promote and | ||
support the National Torch Tour are the Fort Worth Alumnae, the | ||
Metropolitan Dallas Alumnae, the Arlington Alumnae, the North | ||
Dallas Suburban Alumnae, the Southwest Dallas County Alumnae, | ||
the Denton County Alumnae, and the Collin County Alumnae | ||
Chapters, as well as the Zeta Eta Chapter at the University of | ||
North Texas, the Lambda Nu Chapter at Paul Quinn College, the Nu | ||
Iota Chapter at Southern Methodist University, the Eta Delta | ||
Chapter at Texas Woman's University, the Lambda Chi Chapter at | ||
The University of Texas at Arlington, the Iota Eta Chapter at | ||
Texas Christian University, the Sigma Mu Chapter at The | ||
University of Texas at Dallas, and the Theta Nu Chapter at Texas | ||
A&M University--Commerce; and | ||
WHEREAS, All of these outstanding organizations have had a | ||
significant impact on the betterment of their communities, and it | ||
is truly fitting that they be recognized as they celebrate this | ||
milestone in the sorority's history; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd | ||
Legislature, hereby commend the Dallas Alumnae Chapter and the | ||
other North Texas chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, | ||
Incorporated, on their valuable community service and extend to | ||
their members best wishes for a memorable National Torch Tour | ||
centennial celebration; and, be it further | ||
