SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 280
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Eugene Holmes
 
         WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Eugene
  Millard Holmes Jr. of Grand Saline, who passed away on February
  25, 2021, at the age of 70; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Eugene Holmes Sr. and Jeanette Holmes,
  Gene Holmes was born in San Angelo, and he grew up on a ranch with
  his siblings, helping to raise cattle, sheep, goats, cotton, and
  maize; he attended high school in Iraan and graduated as
  valedictorian of his class; and
         WHEREAS, After completing his master's degree in dairy
  science at Texas A&M University, Mr. Holmes was employed as a
  federal dairy inspector in Minnesota; he subsequently moved back
  to Texas and worked for Marathon Oil before returning to
  agriculture, operating a dairy farm in Sulphur Springs and
  serving for two decades as a dairy inspector for the Texas
  Department of Health; in retirement, he moved to his farm in
  Grand Saline, where he enjoyed raising animals and growing
  vegetables to sell at Dallas markets; he and his family
  established a successful community-supported agriculture group
  and provided certified organic produce to many loyal customers;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Holmes was the proud father of five children,
  Analiese, Christina, Joed, James, and Timothy, and he was
  eventually blessed with nine grandchildren; he read to all of
  them when they were young, ensuring that they developed good
  language skills, and he always inscribed their birthday cards
  with wise and encouraging messages; the devoted husband of Teresa
  Fabiola, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Cynthia
  Holmes; he was a man of deep faith, and as a young man, he worked
  with The Navigators discipleship ministry; through the years, he
  loved to memorize scripture, and he inspired his family to read
  the Bible and follow its tenets; moreover, he was an enthusiastic
  fan of Aggie football and attended every home game; and
         WHEREAS, Although Gene Holmes is greatly missed, he has
  left his family and friends with many cherished memories, and he
  will forever hold a special place in their hearts; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Eugene Millard
  Holmes Jr. and extend sincere condolences to his loved ones; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
  this day, it do so in memory of Eugene Millard Holmes Jr.
